I haven't gotten any work done this week. At least not in the physical sense. With NAMM being this week, preparations for meetings at the show as well as just getting my docket clear for my being in CA most of the week, I didn't get into the studio.

But, mental work? Entirely different story. On my commute, I've been picking songs on working out arrangements in my head. I got a pretty good idea of where this project is going.

I am playing at NAMM with Caleb Quaye, guitar player on many of the classic early Elton John albums. I'll post more about NAMM while I can during the show.

Hey there, whoever actually came here to read this!

So, here's the deal. In 1996, I released a solo album, The Advantages of Union. Since then, I played on and produced albums for other artists, got married, went to law school and became a father. Well, 14 years later and I am finally working on my second solo album.

So, why the blog? I have started pre-production on this project at least two or three times in the past. Now, I have actually gotten into tracking and have finished two songs and am 75% done with a third. I have decided that if I did something public to track my progress, I would be a bit more motivated to stay on track and finish this up.

Another reason that I am optomistic about this project is that I have finally gotten my home studio equipped and set up to really promote the "me playing everything" approach. Having a real Hammond up there is also very inspiring. I have also finally jumped into Pro Tools completely. I built a computer specifically for running PT and it is being used solely for music production. I am able to track everything with no latency, including an electronic drum set triggering a soft synth.

So, for now, the working title for the project is "I've Been Busy." We'll see what happens as the album takes shape.
